When the muse comes, she doesn't tell you what to write / She says, "Get up for a minute, I've got something to show you, stand here..."

Things to be Happy About

Things to be Happy About
*the preposterous rituals that people resort to to get rid of hiccups
*not just seizing the day but making the day
*grown-ups with kids' imaginations
*when the fourth wheel on the shopping cart refuses to cooperate with the other three
*the joy of discovering a second layer of chocolates underneath the first
*not having to talk just to keep the conversation going
*little boxes of breakfast cereal
*holding hands on the way home from a concert
*sniffing the air to see if snow is coming
*stirring up the dust in your room while the sun shines through a hole in the curtain
*falling crazily, id-kill-or-be-killed-for-that-man in love
*the amusing shaking of a person's bottom while sharpening a pencil
*centrifugal force
*sentiment and a sense of history
*acquiescence
*smiling at someone who never smiles at you
*fog: technically nothing but a cloud in contact with the earth
*the desperation of a love letter
*weird biology teachers
*just one day of looking terrific
*stowing away memories of wonderful  moments
*saying whats on your mind
*the special symbols used by cartoonists to replace swear words
*the things we dont talk about for fear others wont understand
*discovring that there is no real difference in the various cycles of your washing machine
*sitting down and thinking out an attitude of yours that you're not sure of
*when the lion lies down with the lamb
*roads becoming black velvet ribbons with winking frost sequins
*the moon etching whimsical heiroglyphics on the snow beneath naked trees
*dreaming of dancing at the royal ball and midnight never comes
*atomosphere
*silos, like giant thermoses on the dairyland table
*being devoted to something outside yourself
*turning your pillow over and over, looking for a cool spot
*anticipation being the greater joy
*giving love to someone being enough
*being aware of wonder
*inhaling maximum amounts of sea air to stimulate the appetite
*eating what you like and letting the food fight it out inside
*speaking loudly to foreigners as if it somehow makes you easier to understand
*having an advantage over every other girl
*the impossible encounters that live in the imagination and somehow become reality

"I have stretched cords from steeple to steeple, garlands from window to window, chains of gold from star to star, and I dance" (Rimbaud).
King David leaped and danced naked before the ark of the Lord in a barren desert. Here the very looped soil is an intricate throng of praise. Make connections; let rip; and dance where you can.
